Life Milestones
- 1939: Born in south St. Louis, Missouri on 15 July
- 1957: Graduated from Christian Brothers College High School and enrolls in the University of Missouri. He played college baseball for the Missouri Tigers
- 1958: Signs with the St. Louis Cardinals.
- 1962: Makes professional baseball debut.
- 1966: Named NL Player of the Month in July.
- 1968: Finishes 7th for the NL Most Valuable Player Award.
- 1970: Contracts nephritis which ended his playing career.
- 1972: Begins career in the Cardinals radio booth alongside Jack Buck. Until 2006, he was broadcasted on AM 1120 KMOX. He would be broadcasted on KTRS 550 thereafter.
- 1999: Inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
- 2014: Inducted into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame.
- 2021: Retires at the end of the season concluding a 64 year career with the Cardinals of which 50 were spent in the radio booth.
- 2023: Passes away on 29 April.
He's faster than a chicken being chased by Ronald McDonald!
